Internet Safety
Viewing this website or other domestic violence websites could put you in danger if you are on a shared computer with an abuser. Viewing this site from a public computer is recommended. If you are using a shared computer, know how to clear your Internet browsing history and keep your emails private.
1) Email
By using email programs with software on your computer (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Entourage, or Mac Mail), an abuser who has physical access to your computer could read your emails (both incoming and outgoing mail). By using a web based email, which is password protected, you can have a more secure email system. Create an email address for free by going to websites like gmail.com, hotmail.com, or yahoo.com. Be sure to create a password that only you know and that no one could guess.
2) Deleting Cookies & Web Browsing History/Cache
First, figure out which Internet browser you are using. You can do this by looking at the Internet window that is opened. On the top left hand site of the window, it will tell you the website name, and web browser. For example, if you were on google.com on Internet Explorer, the top of the window would read “Google – Windows Internet Explorer”. Next, follow the instructions below based on what browser you are using.
Note: These steps completely empty the history list, which might look out of the ordinary. You can refill the history list by simply going to some websites like google.com, cnn.com, or weather.com after you have followed the below steps.
