The Towson University Women Studies Department, the Feminist Collective, and Turnaround Inc. will be hosting Towson University’s first ever “Take Back The Night” event on Thursday, April 16th at 6:45 PM. The event will take place on the Potomac Patio, which is right outside of the Towson University Student Union. (Note that this is an updated location.)
The Towson University Feminist Collective website states,
Join the Feminist Collective as we bring the first annual Take Back the Night to Towson University.
There will be tables with information on sexual assault, domestic violence, and many others. We will have people speaking about their experiences with domestic and sexual violence, as well as performers of all types.
We will then march to Take Back the Night around Towson, to help show our support for all men, women, and children affected by domestic and sexual violence.
For more information on this event visit www.takebackthenight.org or e-mail the Feminist Collective at tufeministcollective@gmail.com
According to the official Take Back The Night website, “Throughout its history, Take Back the Night has inspired both women and men to confront a myriad of social ills, including rape, sexual violence, domestic violence, violence against children, and violence against women. The unifying theme throughout these diverse topics is the assertion that all human beings have the right to be free from violence, the right to be heard, and the right to reclaim those rights if they are violated.”
Lexi Hubb, the Events Coordinator for the Towson University Feminist Collective, writes, “Together, we can help end violence against women. Our march is especially important because our route will include an area where a young woman was raped this fall… but we are taking back the night!”
Come out to the event, and be sure to stop by the Family Crisis Center of Baltimore County’s information table.
