The Family Crisis Center of Baltimore County offers an emergency safe shelter for families who are experiencing domestic violence and family conflict. At any given point in time, our shelter is made up of about two thirds children (infants through high school age).

As the fall approaches, and the school year begins, the Family Crisis Center is in need of new school clothes for our children residents. All sizes of clothes are needed, in both boys and girls clothes.

School supplies are needed as well.

The Family Crisis Center of Baltimore County celebrated it’s 30^th Anniversary at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore this June.  Long time supporters of the Family Crisis Center, as well as new donors made their way to the museum to celebrate more than 30 years of assisting Baltimore families who are dealing with domestic violence and family conflict.

The gala’s major sponsors were the People for Rebecca Dongarra for County Council, The Sun Products Corporation, and the Long Green Valley Church of the Brethren.

Executive and Clinical Director, Doug Murphy, thanked the crowd for supporting the Family Crisis Center and presented awards of appreciation to three long term Family Crisis Center supporters: Long Green Valley Church of the Brethren, The Hunt Manor Women’s Club, and the Family Crisis Center’s first Director, Monroe Good.

Guests enjoyed a dinner provided by Dionysus’ Kitchen, music courtesy of Absolute Entertainment, and a silent auction filled with vacation get aways, airfare, wine tastings, and more.

The Family Crisis Center thanks everyone for coming out, and we look forward to next year’s celebration.

The Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence (MNADV) released a report on individuals who died as a result of domestic violence during FY 2009 in Maryland.  The report gives us information on who the victims were, their relationship to the offender, their age range, how they were killed, and where in Maryland this took place.

Baltimore County had the highest number of deaths as a result of domestic violence, with 12. Baltimore City had 10 deaths, and Price George’s County had 8.

These deaths grimly reveal the challenge that the Family Crisis Center of Baltimore County and other domestic violence agencies face as they attempt, with diminished funding and growing demand for services, in our efforts to intervene and provide safety for the families of Baltimore County.

Members of the gala planning committee visited the American Visionary Arts Museum to get a better look at the location of the Family Crisis Center’s 30th Anniversary Gala.

The museum in itself is beautiful, but the actual location in the museum where the gala will take place is breathtaking. There are views of the Baltimore inner harbor, access to some amazing art exhibits, and a huge space for the hundreds of guest expected to the event.

The gala will take place on Friday, June 18th at 7PM.

About the Family Crisis Center of Baltimore County

The FCC is a non profit organization that provides services to families who are experiencing domestic violence and family conflict. The FCC offers a safe shelter, transitional housing, family psychotherapy, victim advocacy, courtroom accompaniment, victim support groups, a 24 hour domestic violence hotline, visits with police officers to scenes of domestic violence incidents, and community education.

The National Network To End Domestic Violence takes one 24 hour period each year to complete a 24 hour census of domestic violence shelters and services throughout the nation.

In Maryland, during that 24 hour period, there were 1,082 victims served. To quote the census:

483 domestic violence victims found refuge in emergency shelters or transitional housing provided by local domestic violence programs.

599 adults and children received non-residential assistance and services, including individual counseling, legal advocacy, and children’s support groups.
